Everybody is talking about the affordable iPhone which will reportedly go on sale as iPhone 5C. We’ve seen dozens of iPhone 5C leaked cases, parts, and spy shots, but somehow the iPhone 5C press photos didn’t hit the web. Well, until now, as a Romanian retailer has sent in a couple of iPhone 5 press photos to Mobilissimo.ro
The Romanian publication writes that we are actually looking at the dummy case that will replace the iPhone 5C on the retailers’ shelves until the real model is shipped. Even so, the new iPhone 5C press photos seem to confirm most of the rumors that made the headlines over the past couple of months, as the affordable iPhone will have a plastic case and a new design for the speaker located on the bottom of the handset.
Rumor has it that the iPhone 5C will replace the iPhone 5 in Apple’s portfolio, as last year’s iOS-powered flagship will no longer be available for purchase after the iPhone 5S is officially unveiled.
If the rumors are accurate and the iPhone 5C is indeed an affordable alternative to iPhone 5, then we should expect the new handset to share the hardware platform of the iOS-powered smartphone launched in 2012. Thus the iPhone 5C might be underpinned by Apple’s A6 SoC with dual-core 1.3 GHz CPU and PowerVR SGX 543MP3 GPU, while sporting 1 GB of RAM.
There will probably be three internal storage options for the iPhone 5C: 16, 32, and 64 GB and since the smartphone will come with the A6 chip, also expect it to pack LTE connectivity, along with WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, WiFi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, and Apple’s proprietary Lightning USB port.
The iPhone 5C will also borrow the iSight 8 megapixel camera mounted on the back of the iPhone 5, with autofocus, LED flash, simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, panorama, HDR, and support for 1080p@30fps video recording. Since Apple doesn’t want fragmentation to become a problem of iOS, the iPhone 5C will come with a 4-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display with a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels.
Sources say that the iPhone 5C will debut synchronized with the iPhone 5S and the launch of iOS 7, so the affordable terminal will run the latest iOS iteration out of the box. Surprisingly enough, one of the leaked iPhone 5C press photos you can see in the gallery below, shows the iOS 6 icons instead of iOS 7.
Reports are indicating that both the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S will debut mid-September, hitting the market less than a couple of weeks after the press event. It seems that the iPhone 5C will not be that affordable after all, sources close to the Cupertino-based giant claiming that the off-contract price will be of around $500.
