Android leaked Camera APK Moto X gesture-tastic

- Sunday, July 28 No Comments
We already know the camera app for the Moto X (and Droid Ultra, MAXX and Mini) will feature a minimalistic, gesture-based UI, but the clever souls over at Android Police went one step further and recently leaked an APK of the app. The file (later pulled and cached here) installs just fine on many devices but lacks some functionality. We tested it on a Nexus 4 running Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) and it worked okay, mostly. HDR and slow-motion video recording are disabled, panorama mode crashes and Quick Capture (double-twist your wrist to launch the camera) is not operational.

Android leaked Camera APK Moto X gesture-tastic

Still, the camera UI is ultra simple -- swipe right for the settings, left for the gallery, up /down to zoom; tap to capture, and hold to take multiple shots. The resulting pictures (16:9 aspect ratio) look pretty much like those snapped with the stock Android camera, and suffer from the same composition issues since the viewfinder crops the right edge of every image. It'll be interesting to see if any of this changes when we finally get our hands on the Moto X next week. Until then, check out the gallery of screenshots below and sound off about the APK in the comments.

Install Air Gesture Feature on Normal Android Device_NewVijay

Well that feature is something that people need in their normal android device’s but what exactly that feature is utilizing to bring that kind of effect is that little proximity sensor available on all modern device’s, so if you want this awesome feature on your older Android devices maybe S3 or so well you can get it by simply installing a application called "Air Call-Accept".

Download Android 4.3 Version for Google Nexus 4 Leaked

- Friday, July 19 No Comments
For the past few hours, I've been observing a curious case of Jeff Williams on Google+. Jeff posted a screenshot of what he claimed was a Nexus 4 he bought from a Googler... with a build of Android 4.3 on it. The same build, JWR66N, that we saw leaked earlier on a Galaxy S4 GPE by SamMobile. In disbelief, some have called him a hoaxer, but a number of resourceful folks decided to get Jeff on IRC (channel #Android43 on freenode) and worked with him for hours, trying over and over to get the magical system dump that would prove Jeff's story to be real.

Download Android 4.3 Version for Google Nexus 4 Leaked

The system dump, which we have since confirmed as legitimate and along with dozens of other IRC members mirrored to multiple destinations, indeed belongs to a Nexus 4 (mako), and the build number is indeed JWR66N. The radio and bootloader are missing right now - Jeff promised them tomorrow - so I have my doubts about a working port to other Nexus 4s for the time being.

Download Android 4.3 Version for Google Nexus 4 LeakedIn the meantime, the system dump itself is ready to go, and Ron and I are ripping through it as we speak. We'll have a teardown ready for you soon if we do dig something up, and by the looks of things, there's enough for a post.

I'd like to thank Jeff for his persistence as well as IRC users efrant, gravufo, Jason__, vividboarder, Introspection, and everyone else who drove this one to the finish line.

- There's chatter on IRC that restoring the backup via TWRP recovery seems to work. I flashed my Nexus 4 using a flashable zip and have a quick guide on how to do this coming up shortly. It boots, and it works.

- One of the goodies inside the dump is a new Play Store v4.2.3. Go grab it.

- Here's how to update your Nexus 4 to Android 4.3 from this dump.

Download
I won't post links to Jeff's Dropbox because it'll blow through his bandwidth allocation in no time. Instead, here are several of our mirrors. The files inside are the system and boot (that's the kernel) partitions, tarred. Just untar them and have fun looking at the APKs:

Nokia Lumia 1020 Preview & Feature Specifications

- Sunday, July 14 No Comments
Their Windows Phone endeavors may have not been all smooth sailing for Nokia, but the Finnish company finally came up with the smartphone to beat - the Lumia 1020. Combining the best of both worlds - solid smartphone experience and an unrivaled camera, the Lumia 1020 promises to become the hero device that both Nokia and Microsoft so desperately need at this moment.
Nokia has been the king of cameraphones since the golden days of Symbian. The legendary Nokia N95 won our first 5 megapixel shootout, and it was shortly followed by the N82, which added a xenon flash to the mix. Symbian's fate then took a sharp turn for the worse, but even so, the emblematic sharpshooter Nokia N8 came along. Then, at the end of the Symbian era, the 808 PureView arrived and changed our understanding and expectations of cameraphones for good.

Nokia Lumia 1020 Preview & Feature Specifications_NewVijay

Unfortunately for the Finns, their WP8 cameraphone voyage didn't begin as smoothly as the Symbian journey ended. The Lumia 800 had an interesting multi-aspect sensor, which sacrificed only little resolution when shooting 16:9 stills, while the Lumia 920 was first to bring optical image stabilization (OIS) to the smartphone world, but neither of those was able to achieve the iconic status of their predecessors. Perhaps adding the PureView moniker to the Lumia 920 in an attempt to capitalize on the brand was a mistake by Nokia, as that guaranteed the smartphone will often be compared to the 808 PureView and that was a battle it was never going to win, OIS or not.

Nokia Lumia 1020 Preview & Feature Specifications_NewVijay

People wanted their 41MP WP8 smartphone and yesterday Nokia finally delivered. The Windows Phone ecosystem is still growing but not fast enough to compete with the big boys. Perhaps bringing the platform to the forefront of the cameraphone race is exactly the kind of push it needed. And camera aside, the Lumia 1020 delivers duly on all those vital other aspects of a modern-day smartphones with barely any compromises made.

Micromax Canvas 4 Review and Features

- Wednesday, July 10 No Comments
We got the information about Micromax finally announced its much anticipated Canvas 4 smartphone – a 5″ 720p device that aims to become a one of the hits in the budget market. The successor of Canvas HD, which was one of the most popular smartphones, is powered by a quad-core processor and promises to deliver excellent value for your $295.

We were at the launch event and we got a chance to play with the smartphone for some time. Here is our first impression on the Micromax Canvas 4, complete with a bunch of live shots.

Design and display

The design of the Micromax Canvas 4 is sleek and simple. The device has a plastic body measuring just 8.9mm and its aluminum frame is certainly a nice touch, adding a dash of premium to the package. The frame also acts as an antenna, boosting signal strength and in turn reception quality. You can also rely on the Corning Gorilla Glass at the front to avoid scratches and things thrown at it.

The Canvas 4 sports a 5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels that results in a near-Retina 294ppi density. The 720p screen offers good brightness levels and good contrast and nicely punchy colors. Viewing angles came out surprisingly good, too. Furthermore, the display is very sensitive, enabling a cool unlocking mode, where in you can blow air to the screen to unlock your smartphone.

Chipset and connectivity

Micromax Canvas 4 is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex A7 processor and is supported by 1 GB of RAM. Surprisingly, there are no improvements as far as the chipset is concerned when compared to its predecessor. The Canvas 4 has 16 GB of inbuilt memory and supports extension up to 32 GB via microSD card slot.

The connectivity option include GPRS, EDGE and HSPA with maximum download speed up to 42 Mbps and upload speeds up to 11 Mbps. The smartphone has the latest 4.0 version of Bluetooth and sports GPS connectivity.

Micromax Canvas 4, the latest addition to the Canvas lineup runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and the juice for the smartphone is provided by a relatively small 2000mAh battery.

Camera

The fourth-generation Canvas smartphone is equipped with a 13 megapixel rear camera and impressive 5 megapixel front shooter. The primary camera has the ability to record 1080p videos and supports face-detection for up to six faces. It is also packed with features like geo-tagging, touch focus, smile and face detection.

Micromax has also included some unique camera features like four way panorama, which allows you to shoot panoramic images horizontally from right to left or left to right and vertically from top to bottom or bottom to top. There’s also an HDR mode, which combines three shots in one and lets you retain detail in both highlight and shadow areas , which includes an overexposed, an underexposed and a medium exposed option. These selections combine to give you the best possible image. The burst mode in the camera allows you to click up to 99 shots in about 15 seconds and you edit and beautify the picture without having to break a sweat, with the image filter and editor.

Gesture communication, smart pause

The latest Canvas smartphone comes with lots of custom software tweaks and improvements along with some new features. The first is proximity answer phone, which allow you to answer a phone call, by bringing the smartphone close to your ear to connect automatically.

The proximity dial phone, allows you to call someone in your address book, call log or messages, by bringing the phone close to your ear. Last but not the least, the upside speaker feature will put your phone on the speaker mode, when you flip your phone over on an active call.

Micromax Canvas 4 now has the smart pause features, which was earlier seen on the Samsung Galaxy smartphones. The feature lets you pause a video or a movie automatically by looking away from the screen.

Video Pinning and Simultaneous view

The Video Pinning, which is basically the Pop Up Play that debuted on the Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone, is now available on the Micromax Canvas 4. With video pinning, you can pin any video on your screen and keep watching as you surf, text or browse.

Simultaneous viewing, as the name suggests, allows you to view two videos at once. You can click on any other clip, while you are already watching a video and you can watch both the clips in a simultaneous preview.

First impressions

The Micromax Canvas 4 is a relatively minor update over the Canvas HD when it comes to the hardware. It’s the software tweaks in the Canvas 4 that actually give it an edge over its predecessor, but we are not sure those are worth the price difference. While some of the new tricks learned by the Canvas 4 are cool and work nicely, we are not quite sure that they alone justify picking the smartphone over the slightly cheaper Canvas 2 Plus, Canvas Doodle and, of course, Canvas HD.

Download/Install MIUI v5 custom ROM for HTC One (changelogs)

- Monday, July 8 No Comments
MIUI is one of the most famous Android launchers out there and now it’s available for HTC One users as an easy to flash ROM.

Download/Install MIUI v5 custom ROM for HTC One (changelogs)

Based on AOSP version of Android 4.2.2 via a fork of the CyanogenMod ROM, the MIUI v5 for HTC One is reported as a pretty stable replacement of the Sense UI experience that the stock HTC One provides. Many owners say it’s much prettier, too.

As with any custom ROM out there, there are some bugs to be expected. NFC might not be working, as it isn’t properly tested, while mobile signal strength isn’t in perfect shape. Bluetooth is also reported to be a bit wonky, but that’s due to the CyanogenMod foundation of the ROM.

Anyway, the overall performance of the custom ROM is reported to be great. You can follow the source link for more information on any glitches the ROM might have and to download it for your ROM flashing pleasure.
